Every PCD advertisement says "monopoly basis". What it actually means, and how you check whether the promise is real, is discussed far less often.
What monopoly rights mean
In the district allotted to you, the company will not give that division's products to anyone else. Which means:
- No other distributor takes the same products to your doctors
- Nobody undercuts your rate
- The doctor relationships you build stay yours
What eight divisions actually means
Here is the part people most often misunderstand.
We run eight separate marketing divisions - Roxrose, Tesact Biocare, Lavanya Biotech, Herbal Ratna Care, Critbarg, Lavanya Glamzone, Femglare Ovulation and Psycho Matrix. Each carries its own monopoly allotment.
That means every district holds eight separate monopoly slots. If one division is with somebody else, another may still be open. So do not stop at "the district is booked" - ask which division is available.
How to verify the monopoly is real
- Ask for it in writing. On official letterhead, stamped and signed. A verbal promise means nothing.
- The territory must be named. Not "North India" - the name of the district.
- The division must be named. It should be unambiguous which one you hold.
- Ask a chemist. Ask two or three chemists in your area whether these products already come in. This is the surest test there is.
- The term should be written down, along with the renewal conditions.
Red flags
- Monopoly promised, but refused in writing
- An unusually large territory promised - "the whole state" is rarely true
- A franchise fee or security deposit demanded
- Factory visit refused
- A product list with no net rates
If the monopoly is broken
With a written agreement you have legal recourse if the company goes back on it. That is precisely why the writing matters. Without paperwork there is nothing you can do.
